Mikhail Gorbachev : The Most Romantic Former President

Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev, age 80, was born on March 02, 1931. His horoscope sun sign is Pisces and Chinese zodiac sign is Goat.

Gorbachev is a former Soviet statesman, having served as General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1985 until 1991, and as the last head of state of the Soviet Union, having served from 1988 until its dissolution in 1991. He was the only general secretary in the history of the Soviet Union to have been born during the Communist rule.

Gorbachev was born in Stavropol Krai into a peasant Ukrainian-Russian family, and in his teens operated combine harvesters oncollective farms. He graduated from Moscow State University in 1955 with a degree in law. While he was at the university, he joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, and soon became very active within it. In 1970, he was appointed the First Party Secretary of the Stavropol Kraikom, First Secretary to the Supreme Soviet in 1974, and appointed a member of thePolitburo in 1979. Within three years of the deaths of Soviet Leaders Leonid Brezhnev, Yuri Andropov, and Konstantin Chernenko, Gorbachev was elected General Secretary by the Politburo in 1985. Before he reached the post, he had occasionally been mentioned in western newspapers as a likely next leader and a man of the younger generation at the top level.

Gorbachev met his future wife, Raisa Titarenko, at Moscow State University. They married in September 1953 and moved to Stavropol upon graduation. She gave birth to their only child, daughter Irina Mikhailovna Virganskaya, in 1957. Raisa Gorbachova died tragically of leukemia in 1999.

In 2006, Raisa Gorbachev Foundation has been established to help find a cure for cancer in children.

The 80-years-old politician Gorbachev announced that he had recorded an album in which he sings the songs himself with the leader of one of Russia’s most beloved rock bands, Andrey Makarevich. The album contained seven of Raisa’s favorite songs and was entitled ”Songs for Raisa” .The album was sold for $164,940 to an anonymous British bidder at a charity auction to raise money for the foundation he established back in 2006.

‘There will be no bulk selling of the album. We’ve put it on our charity auction in London,’ Gorbachev said.

I have always thought that this man is great .. and yes he is :)

Pablo Ruiz Picasso was a famous Spanish painter, draughtsman, and sculptor who lived most of his adult life in France; he is best known for co-founding the Cubist movement and for the wide variety of styles embodied in his work.

A story of hope , a story of determination

Dario Debray Silva Pereira (born November 2, 1972 in Treinta y Tres), commonly known as Darío Silva, is a former footballer who played as a striker. He represented Uruguay 46 times at the international level, scoring 14 goals, and retired from international football after Uruguay failed to qualify for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Silva began his career in 1991 when he joined Defensor Sporting Club. From there he moved on to play for Peñarol and Cagliari Calcio. He then played for Espanyol, Malaga and Sevilla. After spending two years in La Liga with Sevilla FC, Silva decided to cancel the last year of his contract after discovering he was not in manager Joaquin Caparros’s plans for their new campaign. He joined Portsmouth on a free transfer from Sevilla in 2005, signing a two-year deal. However, the former international failed to make an impact after suffering an ankle injury, and after scoring just three goals in 15 appearances he was released from his contract on February 14, 2006.

On September 23, 2006, Silva was seriously injured in a car accident in Montevideo. In the impact Silva fractured his skull, knocking him unconscious and suffering a compound fracture on his right leg. On the day of the accident, a team of five made the decision to amputate his leg below the knee, and Silva underwent an operation which lasted for 3 and a half hours. He was put into a medically induced coma for the amputation. Dario quoted after knowing that he lost his leg “When I found out what happened, I couldn’t control myself. I was in such a shock, I didn’t want to live anymore,” admitted 34 year old Silva, who cannot remember the accident. He adds: “When it became clear, what my family went through because of me, I quickly realized that I’m lucky to be alive!”

Silva left the hospital on October 5 and returned to his home in Montevideo. He went to Italy to receive a prosthetic leg to help him walk without the aid of crutches. Dario did replied all of the letters that have been sent to him , to support him while he is in hospital right after he got back to home .Dario Silva is now aiming to make the 2012 Olympics as a rower.

Tragedy only took one leg from him, not his will to life and his eternal optimism. he adapted very well to his artificial leg, which was made in Italy. When he visited Bologna for fittings. Almost unbelievably Dario Silva took the pitch again on Jan 13 2009 after a 3 year absence, taking part in a charity match between Uruguay XI and the Argentina XI for the “Fundación Niños con Alas” (Children with Wings Foundation). Showing he still has it, he not only played but stepped up to score a penalty !

That was one of the most emotional scenes I’ve ever seen ..

Luis Nazario de Lima, Hanged his boots ..

Luis Nazario de Lima aka Ronaldo one of the greatest players of all time has confirmed that he will announce his retirement on Monday, calling time on a rich and unforgettable career in football.

The legendary striker, currently with Corinthians, has cited injury and fitness concerns as the reason for his bowing out months before his final contract was due to expire.

“My body aches. In my head I want to continue, but this body can’t take much more,” Ronaldo told Fantastico online magazine. “In recent days I have cried like a baby.”

In 2007, he was named as one of the best starting eleven of all-time by France Football and was named to the FIFA 100, a list of the greatest footballers compiled by fellow countryman Pelé. In 2010, he was voted Goal.com’s ‘Player of the Decade’ in an online poll, gathering 43.63% of all votes and was also included as Centre Forward in the ‘Team of the Decade’. He is widely considered by experts and fans as one of the greatest players of all time.

We “Ronaldo Fans in kuwait” and football fans in general were saddened by this news but this is just how life is … Good luck El Phenomeno ..

Series: Inventors Killed By Their Own Inventions (Part II)

6. Cowper Coles – Turret Ship
A famous Chinese stateman once said: “Weapons are an important factor in war, but not the decisive one; it is man and not materials that counts” I guess Cowper Coles should have really taken that thought into consideration before inventing the turret ship- an ironclad war vessel, with low sides, on which heavy guns are mounted on a low structure, which may be rotated. The ship was so overly loaded with armored structures that they shifted its centre of gravity and caused it to become unstable resulting in the vessel capsizing on 6th September 1870. Cowper Coles was one of the 500 that died when it sunk. Only 18 of its crew survived.

7. Henry Winstanley – Lighthouse

Necessity is the mother of invention. Sure enough, after losing not one but two of his ships on the treacherous Eddystone Reef, Winstanley, a famous English architect and engineer felt it necessary to construct a lighthouse for the protection of his own and other ships. In the early 1700’s he invented the first Eddystone Lighthouse and proudly told the world that he wished he could “be in the light-house during the greatest storm that ever was”. Little did he know his prayer would soon be answered on the night of November 26th, 1703, when one of the most destructive hurricanes Great Britain has ever experienced shook the reefs and did incalculable damage. In the morning, when the skies finally cleared, and ships reached Eddystone Rocks, Winstanley’s great lighthouse was gone. And he was gone with it.

8. John Godfrey Parry-Thomas

Welsh motor-racing driver and engineer J.G Parry Thomas, with a strong desire to regain his title as land speed record holder, a title snatched away from him by Malcom Campbell, decided to create a special type of vehicle to achieve his dream. His invention was a car he called Babs, which had many modifications, such as exposed chains to connect the engine to the drive wheels and the high engine cover requiring him to drive with his head tilted to only the right side. On trying to reclaim his record from Campbell, in the final race, the right-hand drive chain broke at a speed of 170 mph (270 km/h), flew into his neck, partially decapitating him and causing a head injury. He died instantly.

9. Marie Curie- Radioactive substances

Ever wondered where the word ‘Polonium’ came from? Well, it came from a Polish physicist and chemist and Nobel Prize winner Marie Curie who named her newly discovered chemical after her native country. Ever wondered what happened to this discoverer of Polonium, Radium and Theory of Radioactivity? She died on July 4, 1934, from aplastic anemia, as a result of exposure to radiation after working continuously in a small enclosed shed without any safety measures because radiation’s danger  were not well understood at that time. To add to the misery, following her female instincts, she had carried test tubes containing radioactive isotopes in her pocket being mesmerized by the ‘pretty blue-green light’ that the substances gave off in the dark.

10. Donald Campbell – Speed engine for motorboat

Speed thrills but kills. We all know it yet we all ignore it. It’s human nature to challenge well known facts of life. British car and motorboat racer Donald Campbell was no different. He broke eight world speed records in the 1950s and 60s and to quench his insatiable drive to conquer speed he decided to try for another water speed record in 1966. This time the target was 300 mph. He invented a lighter and more powerful engine for his boat Bluebird K7. Blame it on adrenaline rush or sheer stupidity but instead of refueling and waiting for the wash of his first run to subside, as is usual with speedboat races, Campbell decided to make a return run immediately. The craft’s stability began to falter as it travelled over the rough water and it somersaulted at a 45 degree angle plunging back into the lake and disintegrating at a speed of 320mph. Needless to say, the inventor was killed.

Series: Inventors Killed By Their Own Inventions (Part I)

It’s all fun and games… until something you invent ends up killing you. Inventing new products or processes is not easy. It’s challenging and risky and sometimes, just sometimes, lady luck decides to look the other way and in a cruel twist of fate with a tinge of irony, you end up losing your life to the hands of your own creation. Here’s a list of  brave inventors who, in the process of trying to make the lives of others better, lost their own !

1.  Thomas Midgley- Leaded Petrol and Mechanical Bed

Thomas Midgley, an American chemist who developed both leaded petrol and chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), was notoriously known as ‘the one human responsible for more deaths than any other in history’. As if it was nature’s idea to get revenge on him he was left disabled in his bed due to lead poisoning and polio at the age of 51. Keeping his inventive juices flowing, he designed a complicated system of strings and pulleys on his bed so that he could lift himself up when needed. This invention was the cause of his death at the age of 55 when he was accidentally entangled in the ropes of his bed and died of strangulation. Talk about double irony.

2. Otto Lilienthal – Hang Glider

‘To invent an airplane is nothing. To build one is something. But to fly is everything’ – famous words uttered by Otto Lilienthal who was one of the pioneers of human aviation and invented the first few hang gliders. He made over 2500 successful flights using his own inventions for five straight years starting from 1891 until one fateful day, in the mid of 1896, his glider lost lift and he crashed from a height of 17m (56 feet). The impact broke his spine and a day later, he succumbed to his injuries. His last words are a source of inspiration for all those who face numerous obstacles in life while trying to achieve something big: ‘Small sacrifices must be made!

3. Franz Reichelt- The Overcoat Parachute

Franz Reichelt an Austrian born tailor of the 1800’s was most famously known for inventing an overcoat which he claimed to act as a parachute and could bring its wearer gently to the ground or even to fly under the right conditions. This inventor, who was also called the ‘The Flying Taylor’, attempted to demonstrate his invention by jumping off the first deck of the Eiffel tower himself instead of using a dummy, in front of a large crowd of spectators and camera crew. The result? The parachute failed to deploy and he crashed into the hard concrete ground at the foot of the tower, the impact immediately killing him.

4. Alexander Bogdanov- Blood Transfusion

A renowned Russian physician, philosopher, economist, science fiction writer, and revolutionary, Alexander Bogdanov developed a sudden interest in the possibility of human rejuvenation through blood transfusions. In hopes of achieving eternal youth and bodily revitalization, he undertook 11 blood transfusions, ultimately reporting an improvement in eyesight and reduction of balding. Great invention, right? Wrong. Bogdanov died in 1928, after he did a transfusion on himself with blood from a student that had tuberculosis and malaria.

5. William Bullock- Rotary Printing press

In the history of bizarre accidents, William Bullock’s story is always cited as an example. Bullock was an American inventor whose 1863 invention of the rotary printing press helped revolutionize the printing industry due to its efficiency and ability to print 10,000 units per hour. In April 1867, while he was trying to install a new printer in one of his presses, in a frustrated attempt to make adjustments to the machine, he kicked a driving belt onto a pulley. What followed next tops scenes from even the most gruesome movies like Hostel and Saw. His food got caught in the merciless contraption, was crushed beyond repair and developed a severe gangrene infection for four days. Bullock died during an operation to amputate his foot. Bizarre Indeed.

No Wonder Why He Was One of the Greatest !

Texting may be a boon in today’s world, but the concept was visualized more than a century ago.

And, it was a pioneering American physicist who had predicted the portable messaging service, like the SMS, via a handheld device in the Popular Mechanics magazine in 1909, its technology editor Seth Porges has claimed in a report.

Nikola Tesla, the physicist, was an inventor and a mechanical and electrical engineer. He was one of the most important contributors to the birth of commercial electricity. Tesla saw wireless energy as the only way to make electricity thrive, according to Porges.

Telsa wrote in the magazine that one day it’d be possible to transmit “wireless messages” all over the world and imagined that such a hand-held device would be simple to use and one day everyone in the world would communicate to friends using it, Porges said.

This would usher in a new era of technology, Telsa wrote in the publication. “Nikola Tesla was able to predict technology which is still in its nascent forms a hundred years later. He talked a lot about his other great passion, which was wireless power.

“It has taken a little longer to get off the ground, but work on fascinating wireless conductive transmission is going on right now in research centres at MIT and Intel and other places,” the Daily Telegraph quoted Porges as saying.

لاتوجد نشاطات بالمعنى المساهمات الفعلية فيها لقناعات لدي احتفظ بها ولاكني متابعة جيدة للشأن الاجتماعي والسياسي … فنحن جزء منه نتفاعل معه … يؤثر ونتأثر به شئنا ام أبينا

ما هي اهم المشكلات والتحديات التي تواجه القطاع التعليمي العام والخاص ؟

نحن في زمن متسارع ومتغير اذا لم نسير معه بنفس السرعة سنتجمد ونتأخر عن الركب المتسارع وفي زمن ثورة المعلومات وتسارع المعارف يحتاج التعليم منا طاقات وعقليات مفتوحة على تلك المتغيرات ولديها الدراية التامة بمتطلبات المرحلة و قادرة على احداث التغير. الى جانب هذه المشكلة نواجه ايضا مشكلة غياب معاير الجوده وفق المعاير الدولية في ذلك ,كذلك نجد ان مستوى الخدمات التي يصرف عليها ميزانيات عالية في التعليم لا تتوافق مع مستوى مخرجات التعليم والعائد من التعليم ضعيف .
ففي الاختبارات الدولية التي شاركت بها الكويت جاء ترتيب الكويت فيها الرابع تقريبا قبل الاخير مقارنة مع نتائج دول اخرى لاتصرف ميزانيات التعليم المصروفة في الكويت .
الى جانب العديد من المؤشرات التى توضح الهدر في الانفاق مقارنة مع نتائج مستوى التحصيل العام والانفاق على الرواتب ، هناك وفره وعدد من التخصصات يقابله ضعف في بعض التخصصات الاخرى في العنصر الكويتي.
هناك ايضا مشكلة ضعف كليات اعداد المعلمين فمستوى المعلم الكويتي في كليات اعداده ليس بمستوى الطموح .

برأيك ماهي الحلول المطلوبه ؟

التخطيط الجيد
ايجاد معايير للجوده
تحويل الخطط الى برامج تنفيذية
تطوير وتأهيل العنصر البشري
ليس فقط تهيئة واعداد تجهيزات تصرف عليها الملايين ولا توجد خبرات او كوادر قادره على استخدامها
كذلك ايجاد معايير الجوده للمناهج والمعلم والاداره التربويه وفق المعايير الدوليه في هذا الشأن

مستقبل التعليم في الكويت من وجهة نظرك الى اين يتجه ؟

من وجهة نظري وخبرتي الطوبلة في مجال التعليم ان التعليم ليس اولوية لدي الحكومة وعناك عدم وضوح الرؤية لما نريده من التعليم , شكل الاجيال القادمة، مستقبل الكويت كيف سيكون دائما تصريحات المسؤلين في الحكومة هي جعل الكويت مركزا ماليا ,كيف ؟ الا يجب التخطيط لبناء اجيال قادرة على تنفيذ ذلك , لماذا دائما تفكيرنا لحظي وتخطيطنا لحظي وقوانيننا لحظية ؟؟؟

لماذا كل هذا التأخير بالقطاع التعليمي في الكويت اذا ما قورن بقطاعات التعليم بالخليج ؟

التعليم بدول الخليج مبنى وفق رؤى وسياسات دولة واضحة لمتخذ القرار تخضع لاعلى سلطة في الدولة، لها اولوياتها في برامج الحكومة ولا تتدخل اي جهة في تنفيذها
عندنا في الكويت الوضع مختلف الكل يتدخل في السياسات التعليمية سواء من اهل الاختصاص او عدمه، سياسيين وحزبيين واهالى وجمعيات نفع عام وكل جهة تعمل على تحقيق توجهه جماعتها لدواعي انتخابية وقبليية وايضا مذهبية للأسف حكومتنا تحاول ارضاء الجميع لتحقق الاستقرار في عمر حكوماتها والنتيجة ما نراه اليوم في الشأن التعليميي تدخل بلغ الى ان البرمان يبت في قضية دوام الطلبه وطول اليوم الدراسي وووو

دور المرأة الكويتية في مختلف القطاعات مهمل ولا تسلط عليه اي اضواء لماذا برأيك ؟

للمرأة دور كبير وواضح لا يمكن اهماله
نعم لاتسلط عليه الاضواء لاسباب معروفة وهي انعكاس للواقع لوجود شريحة من الاحزاب والتكتلات التي تحاول طمس دورها وحصره في البيت وابعاده عن الشأن العام وللاسف هذه المجموعة هي الصوت الاعلى وتملك القوة لتحريك الاعلام وتسليط الاضواء على فكرهم مستغليين الجوانب الدينية والقبلية لتعزيز فكرهم الى جانب تحركات خجلة من قبل الحكومة والتيارات الاخرى التي تدعي دعمها للمرأة.

ما رأيك بالاوضاع السياسيه في البلاد ؟

الوضع السياسي في الكويت فوضى ما بعدها فوضى وسفسطائيه عقيمه لاتخدم احد وللاسف هذه الفوضى تدفع في طريق كره للديمقراطيه والعمل بها وهذا شعور الاغلبيه الصامته من الكويتيين .
اين كنا ؟ واين نحن الان ؟ والى اين نحن سائرون ؟
سؤال اتمنى من الحكومه واعضاء مجلس الامه الاجابه عليه.

يفتقر الجيل الحالي للقيادات النسائية، برأيك ما هي الاسباب ؟

هناك بعض الوجوه النسائية الجديدة مبشرة بالخير وهي تعمل بجهود ذاتية دون دعم من جهات واحزاب لقنعات لديها عدم تسليط الاضواء عليها ومحاربتها تعود للاسباب السابق ذكرها ولا حاجه للتكرار ولعل الفتاوى الاخيرة توضح الاسباب فبعد فوز المرأة في الحصول على اربعة مقاعد في البرلمان أوجدت هذه النقلة حالة من الفزع لتلك القوى فاتجهت الى الافتاء كسبيل لها متناسيه الدستور ومواده
